If you prefer to do the climb alone or on a different date/route please contact us at (info@everydaysafaris.com) and our agent will get in touch with you.
This is the route for mountaineers and climbers given its acclimatization transition. It is the most preferable route for most adventurous souls and those looking for the quickest cut to the summit. Also known as the ‘Coca-Cola’ or ‘tourist’ route, it offers the comfort of manageable acclimatization, sleeping huts with beds, and solar-powered lighting.
What to Expect
Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is exciting and a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, but the cost of the same can be high and can easily discourage other climbers from climbing. Did you know that there is financial power in numbers? A larger group of climbers tend to attract lower rates per person. If you decide to be part of the 10+ individuals in a group then you will save a few dollars. The fewer the people the more expensive a climb will be. That is why private climbs of one or say two to three people are quite expensive. We advise traveling in a group that is not too large or small to meet both needs. 12 people are believed to be ideal for a group climb.
The Cost Includes:
- Transport from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Babylon Lodge on the day of arrival.
- Accommodation the night before the climb on Bed and breakfast basis per person sharing on double and triple occupancy. Single room supplement at an additional $50.

Your Tour Liaison will lead an evening brief with our guides and go through the pre-climb checklist and make sure you are ready to begin the climb. You will have received an email with the necessary details when you completed your payment and prior to the start of your trip.
Note: Check-in starts at Midday. We recommend travelers settle and get some rest ahead of the expedition. If you arrive late there is no problem as the briefing will be done the next morning before departure.
- Altitude: Marangu Gate (1,860 m) — Mandara Hut (2,700 m)
- Distance: 8 km
- Time: 4–5 hrs.
Our climbing crew will arrive early in the morning at your hotel. You will leave for Marangu Gate which is situated at the eastern entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park at 1800M above sea level. After registration, you will start your hike to Mandara hut which is 8km away ( Mandara Huts (2,700m).
You are required to have a change of clothes and raincoats due to the showers encountered as you trek through the rainforest on your way to the camp.
On reaching the Mandara Hut, our crew will cater to all your needs including the provision of readymade delicious hot meals to replenish your energy. You can then relax comfortably in the huts which are found on this route.
Most mountain climbers take Diamox in the morning, before they start their ascent, in order to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. We recommend you consult your doctor prior to the trip in case of potential allergies.
- Altitude: Mandara Hut (2,700 m) — Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
- Distance: 10 km
- Time: 5-6hrs.
Acclimatization hike: - Altitude: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Destination point en route to Kibo Hut (3,920 m)
- Distance: 2.5 km
- Time: 1–2 hrs.
Immediately after breakfast has been served, the trek to Horombo Huts (3720m) will start. This is a 10km hike that takes approximately 5-6 hours. From Horombo hut, the climbers are treated to the beautiful views of Kibo and Mawenzi Volcanoes. Accommodation and dinner at Horombo hut
Once at Horombo, you will be required to trek further upwards to achieve acclimatization. Acclimatization is a necessity to the body as it gives it a chance to familiarize with the changes in altitude and lowers the impacts of sickness as a result of increasing altitude.
The acclimatization distance is 200m and ends at Kibo huts. Afterwards, the climbers will descend back to Horombo where delicious dinner will be served for the night in readiness for the next day.
- Altitude: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Destination point en route to Kibo Hut (4,500 m)
- Distance: 5-8 km
- Time: 3-4 hrs.
This day doesn’t incorporate a lot of trekking and engaging activities. The main activities here are acclimatization towards Kibo Hut and back. On descending, scrumptious lunch is taken. Afterward, the climbers are free to explore the mountain, enjoy the sceneries and landscapes as they take pictures. Alternatively, you can choose to sleep and enjoy the rest as you anticipate the activities of the next day.
- Altitude: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Kibo Hut (4,700 m)
- Distance: 10 km
- Time: 4–8 hrs.
The 10km trek towards Kibo Huts (4700m) that takes approximately 4-8 hours is smooth if the right pace is followed. With the increase in altitude, the body is bound to feel exhausted at the slightest of pressure.
The climbers are advised to conserve their energy as much as possible and keep their bodies hydrated. How you treat your body at this altitude will determine if you will reach the summit. On reaching Kibo huts, lunch is served and climbers are given ample time to rest. Ample rest and avoiding strenuous activities are important factors that every climber should adhere to.
Altitude:
- Kibo Hut (4,700 m) — Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
- Distance: 16 km
- Time: 9–12 hrs.
From here, the goal of the trek is to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro mountain; Uhuru Peak which lies 16km away at altitude 5895m. The expedition starts at night and lasts between 9-12hours. The main challenge of the expedition itself lies in the exceptional change in altitude which can largely affect the climber’s physique and ability to successfully finish the summit.
This is where the climbing guides come in as they will help monitor response, stamina, and mental resolve as the hike progresses. On reaching the peak you are free to descend to the nearest glacier should you wish to do so. You will then descend to Kibo and in 2-hours’ time or so, the descent to Horombo huts begins. Care should be taken on your way back to avoid accidents. As much as descending sounds easy, most of the accidents happen during this part of the climb down.
Change in Elevation:
- Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Marangu Gate (1,860 m)
- Hiking distance: 18 km
- Hiking time: 5-6 hours
After a warm breakfast has been served, the descent to the Marangu Gate will begin. The journey is approximately 18km and may take 5-6hours. You will be congratulated amidst all the partying and celebrations for s successful summit. We will also have a Champaign welcome where you will get to enjoy drinks and have a good time with the porters and guides. In the evening, you will be transported back to Babylon Lodge where you will spend the night.
There, you will meet with Everyday Safaris Representatives and get the chance to share your summit opinion in the guestbook. We take the opinions of our clients with high regard as they help us convey better services.
You will also receive your commemorative certificate.
